During a private retreat at La Mouy, we'll take care of all of that for you.

Breakfast is waiting. Lunch is taken care of. In the evening, you come to a beautifully set table and a wonderful dinner -and afterwards, you leave the plates to us.

Your experiences have been chosen by you and arranged by us. Reservations are made. Local transport is taken care of. And because we live here, we'll introduce you to the places, people and little corners of the Dordogne we genuinely love.

And sometimes there is something worth celebrating: an anniversary, a family reunion, a pre-wedding gathering, or simply the fact that it has been far too long since you spent time with your closest friends. Some moments deserve more than a dinner or a bottle of champagne.

A holiday where nobody has to organise the holiday

What does a private retreat at La Mouy cost?

Every retreat is different, so the price depends on how long you stay, the number of people in your group, the time of year you visit and what you would like us to include.

For stays between October and May, private retreats typically start from:

3 nights · from €700 per person
4 nights · from €900 per person
5 nights · from €1,100 per person

These prices are based on groups of six to eight guests. Smaller groups are very welcome; as La Mouy is exclusively yours throughout your stay, a minimum retreat price applies.

Your retreat can be kept beautifully simple or made as special as you wish. Perhaps you'd love leisurely meals at La Mouy, a morning at the market and a visit to a favourite vineyard or chateau. Or perhaps you're imagining a hot-air-balloon flight over the Dordogne, a private wine tasting in the pool house and dinner at a Michelin-starred restaurant.

Your final price will reflect the experiences, meals and transport we create for your stay, and you'll receive one complete price before you decide to book.

For stays between June and September, private retreats are individually priced and subject to availability.

There is no single best time to experience La Mouy and the Dordogne. Each season brings something different: Spring gardens, long summer evenings, autumn markets, winter truffles and Christmas by the fire. Tell us when you'd like to come and the things you love, and we'll create your days around the very best of the season.

January & February: Delicious truffles

Winter belongs to the black truffle of the Périgord. Head out with a local truffle grower and their dog, visit a traditional truffle market and come home to discover just how delicious this extraordinary ingredient can be.

Perhaps we'll invite a private chef to La Mouy to create a truffle-inspired dinner just for you, or taste some of the simple ways truffles are enjoyed here - folded into a traditional Périgord omelette, shaved over beautiful local dishes, or with a creamy Rocamadour and a drizzle of truffle honey.

Add a vineyard visit, a long lunch, the hot tub and evenings around the fire, and winter in the Dordogne starts to feel rather irresistible.

March: The secret season

Come when the Dordogne feels wonderfully local.

March is one of those months the Dordogne seems to keep for itself. The great châteaux have reopened their doors, prehistoric caves take you thousands of years back in time, and you can wander through Sarlat's beautiful streets without the summer crowds.

It is also a lovely month to follow whatever is happening locally. An exhibition in Sarlat or Périgueux. A visit to an artist's atelier. A morning in Les Eyzies discovering the extraordinary story of prehistoric man. Perhaps Fest'Oie, a brocante or the last truffles of winter, according to when you're here.

Stand on the ramparts of Beynac and gaze across the Dordogne valley far below, with castles rising from the hilltops in the distance. Linger over lunch in a little village and come home to La Mouy for a glass of wine as the evening settles in.

April & May: When the orchids bloom

Spring arrives beautifully here. Wild orchids begin appearing in the meadows and along the limestone paths, gardens fill with spring colour and the countryside seems to turn greener by the day.

Spend a morning following one of the Dordogne's orchid trails, take your baskets to the market and look out for the first Périgord strawberries, local cheeses and whatever else looks irresistible for lunch. Explore the beautiful gardens of Eyrignac as they come alive for spring, taste wine among the vineyards of Bergerac and Monbazillac, or step aboard a traditional gabarre and drift along the Dordogne beneath cliffs, villages and ancient châteaux.

And as the days grow warmer, go horse riding through the countryside or simply open a bottle of wine on the terrace and enjoy the first swims of the year in La Mouy's heated pool.

June to August: Summer days

Summer at La Mouy has its own beautiful rhythm. Slow breakfasts, morning markets, long afternoons by the pool and canoe trips along the Dordogne or Vézère.

As the heat begins to fade, head into one of the villages for a summer night market. Choose what you would like to eat from local producers, find a place at one of the long communal tables, open a bottle of wine and settle in among villagers and visitors as the music starts and the evening comes alive. They are wonderfully informal, delicious and usually a lot of fun.

You may also find a local fête to join - music, dancing and celebrations spilling into the streets and, if you're lucky, spectacular fireworks over the river.

And on a Thursday evening, wander through the gardens of Marqueyssac as thousands of candles light the paths and musicians play in little clearings along the way.

There might be a château to explore, a long lunch beside the river or an afternoon when nobody feels like going anywhere at all. Stay by the pool, open something cold and let dinner wait until the evening air begins to cool.

Then gather around the table outside, light the candles and stay there long after the sun has disappeared behind the hills. This is summer as it should be.

September & October: Autumn gold

Autumn might just be the Dordogne's best-kept secret. The vineyards turn gold, the summer crowds disappear and the markets begin to fill with walnuts, mushrooms, apples, pumpkins, cheeses and all the wonderful flavours of the season.

In September, the grape harvest brings the vineyards of Bergerac and Monbazillac to life. And if your stay happens to coincide with the vendanges, we may be able to take you closer to the harvest - perhaps spending time among the vines, seeing the grapes brought into the winery and sharing in the excitement of this very special time of year.

As autumn deepens, fill your baskets at the market and come back home for a special cooking experience. Visit a traditional walnut mill and taste the rich, freshly pressed oil, or take to two wheels and follow quiet country lanes through forests, little villages and the changing autumn landscape.

And when the evenings turn cooler, return to La Mouy, pour a good bottle of wine and let a seasonal dinner bring the day to an end.

November: A quieter kind of magic

November brings a quieter kind of magic to the Dordogne. Mist settles into the valleys in the early mornings, with wooded hills and ancient châteaux appearing above it, before giving way to crisp, clear days and a countryside that feels wonderfully still.

This is the beginning of the rich winter food season too. Visit a traditional marché au gras and discover the duck, goose, walnuts and seasonal dishes of the Périgord, or come home to a dinner made with the flavours of the region.

Spend a morning with a local artisan, perhaps trying your hand at pottery or discovering a craft you have never tried before. On a bright afternoon, pull on your boots and head out along one of the country paths. Or take your camera and capture the Dordogne at its most atmospheric - châteaux rising above the valleys, the soft November light and medieval villages almost empty of visitors. There may be something special happening too - perhaps the annual film festival in Sarlat.

Then come home. Sink into the hot tub as dusk begins to fall, pour a glass of wine and settle in beside the fire.

December: The festive season

Christmas is a beautiful time at La Mouy. The house is dressed for Christmas, with a beautiful tree, glowing candles and a crackling fire in the wood burner, while fresh bread comes straight from the oven and something delicious is being prepared for dinner. Children can curl up on the big sofa with a Christmas film, a cat may decide that your lap is the perfect place for an afternoon nap, and there is time simply to be together - cooking, eating, laughing, playing games and staying around the table far longer than anyone intended.

Beyond La Mouy, medieval towns and villages are celebrating too. Browse a Christmas market in Sarlat or Périgueux, visit the magnificent rooms of Château de Biron dressed for the season, or listen to a festive concert in an old church.

And with a Swedish host, Christmas at La Mouy naturally comes with a little Scandinavian twist. Come home to warm glögg, fragrant with winter spices, and gather around the table for a festive dinner that brings together some of our favourite traditions with the wonderful winter flavours of the Périgord.

If you're here to see out the old year, celebrate la Saint-Sylvestre the French way - with a special New Year's Eve dinner at a local restaurant, champagne and music. We'll arrange the reservation and transport, so everyone can raise a glass at midnight.

Or simply stay at La Mouy. Sink into the hot tub beneath the winter sky, open something special and enjoy having nowhere else you need to be.
